With education and experience in
many different languages, he left in 1988 the soprano and
alto sax, and is from that date,
specially working in the
structured improvisations with,

BIOGRAPHY: ( summary
)
Flutist,
improviser and composer, Carlos Bechegas,
born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1957.
After studied in a Art School, he is
teaching since 1975, Visual Arts and
Crafts Education, in a Lisbon Statement Official
School. A job that would continue to
financially support him throughout his
career.
Beginning his artistic activity in 1977,
playing also alto and soprano sax, he
started performing in the Jazz music
area, have formed his Bebop quartet, and
participated in a Swing Orquestra, and
Jazz-Rock, Standard and Contemporary Jazz
groups.
Along the eighty years he participated in
the improvise electro-acoustic Carlos
Zingaro trio " Plexus ", and
performed in live concerts and records
off Folk Portuguese's singers projects.
Simultaneously in a parallel way,
searching for a solid, and a multifarious
knowledge and experience, he invested in
different expression areas, entering in
the Lisbon Conservatory to study Classic
Music; participating in workshops about :
jazz and improvise music with - Steve
Potts, Kent Carter, Takashi Kako, Carlos
Zingaro, Maggie Nicols, Steve Lacy, Evan
Parker, Derek Bailey, Richard Teitelbaum,
Peter Kowald... Contemporary Classic
Composition with Emmanuel Nunnes; Flute
extended techniques with Pierre Ives
Artaud; Theatre and Multimedia with the
Italian Fernando Grillo; with the English
Theater Ensemble " Welfare State
International "; with the Germany
music performer Frank Kollges
By 1987 , after finished the Classic
Music Course in Flute and Composition,
Bechegas had dropped the saxophone
entirely, and chosen to devote his music
career exclusively to the flute and
improvisation.
One year later he initiated, his
electro-acoustic solo conception, a
project with real-time control by the
flute, of the electronics set-up, using a
pitch to midi converter; Composed and
produce music for his Multimedia
performances, Architecture television
programs, and have been regularly
creating music for performances,
choreography's and dance-videos.
As parallel activities, worked four years
in Music and Drama therapy with
handicap-Childs; organized improvise
music meetings; lied music workshops of
composition and improvisation with new
technologies. Recently, he began also to do
photograph exhibitions, create the
" Forward.rec " label, and his giving master
classes of extended flute techniques and improvisation
to students of hight shool conservatory classic music .
Have been participating in concerts and
festivals in Portugal and abroad, namely:
duo with Carlos Zingaro in Moscow; in the
International Macau New Music Festival;
III Montreuil / Instant Chavirés
Improvise Music Meeting; played in the
" Global Jungle Orquestra "
with, Hamid Drake, John Stublefield,
Grahm Haynes and C. Zingaro.
After 1998, he did duo concerts with Peter Kowald,
Michel Edelin, Derek
Bailey , Reuben Radding, William Parker, Joelle Leandre,
Barry Guy, and in trio with, André Goudbeek / Peter
Jacquemyn; Fred van Hove/Gunter Sommer; Phil Minton/Han Bennink,
André Goudbeek / Peter Jacquemyn, Carlos Santos /
Etienne Rolin.
His first CD came out later in 1997 on
Leo Records Laboratory - 032. Split
between his trio project - IK*Zs (3) and
solo performances,
The 1998 " Flute Landscapes "
on audEo - 0298 " showed all the
extent of his talent in a series of short
solo improvisations focusing on specific
techniques and effects-a glossary of the
modern flute "- François Couture,
All Music Guide . By
Numérica label, he released " Right
Off ", a flute and electronics duo,
with Derek Bailey.
On
2001 with the CD " Open
Secrets " # 01, a duo recording with the bass
player Peter Kowald, he have initiate his record label "
forward.rec "; After that date, by forward.rec he
released ten CDs: duos with Michel Edelin, Alex von Schlippenbach, Barry Guy,
Reuben Radding, Joelle Leandre, and trio with André Goudbeek/Peter
Jacquemyn; Carlos Santos / Etienne Rolin.
